In March 2009 the Government Research Fellowship Lectures for 2008 – 2009 were delivered by Professor Sheryar K. Ookerjee on “Plato’s Indian Connection.” The three well researched lectures in the series were very well received and the K R Cama Oriental Institute decided to publish these lectures to extend their outreach.

From 1948 to 1985, Dr. Sheryar K. Ookerjee taught Western Philosophy at the Wilson College, Bombay and was the head of the Department of Philosophy from 1957. A widely recognized post-graduate Lecturer in Philosophy of the University of Mumbai, he was the President of the Bombay Philosophical Society.

Dr. Ookerjee has specialized in the philosophies of Plato and F. H. Bradley and has lectured on the latter at Cardiff in 1973. He lectured on Political Philosophy and conducted seminars on Plato and Idealism at the City College of New York as the K. D. Irani Professor.

He was awarded a fellowship by the Indian Council of Philosophical Research from 2004 to 2006. His book Human Reason and its Enemies was published in 2009.

Dr. Ookerjee is an amateur artist and has a passion for western classical music. He has been a music critic for a number of leading newspapers.
