Description

“Mumbaino Bahaar” is a monumental work which was originally written in old Gujarati, published in 1874, by Ratanji Faramji Vatcha. It narrates not only the establishment of British rule over the city of Mumbai but also records the achievements of the leading Parsi and Hindu pioneering families who helped to develop the city. The wealth of information that the author provides is unsurpassed by other similar contemporary works. It includes detailed biographies and family trees which would be very useful to a researcher, as well as interesting anecdotes for the general reader. The original work has been translated into English, edited and published by the K R Cama Oriental Institute. It was released on Thursday, 14 March 2024, at the Institute by Dr Jehangir Sorabjee.
